RESEARCH

While writing The Memory Detectives, I paid several visits to the Air Transport Auxiliary Museum in Maidenhead. The staff there were very knowledgeable and encouraging and helped me a great deal with my research. I was also lucky enough to spend a memorable morning with Joy Lofthouse, then in her nineties but still in excellent health, a delightful person who told me about her wartime career as a pilot with the A.T.A. and her great love of flying.
