THE AUTHOR - Julia Amos

Julia Amos

I live in the West Country and as well as reading, I enjoy walking in beautiful places, especially by the sea, playing music with friends and writing songs. I have always been interested in creative writing, particularly poetry, radio drama and children's fiction and eventually studied for a degree in Creative Arts (creative writing and music) at Bath Spa University.

My working life has been quite varied but has usually involved some branch of teaching or therapeutic work. I've taught instrumental music in schools, and also many different courses in the community. Therapeutic work has included working with people with memory loss, on hospital wards, in day care centres, and in care homes. We also have a much-loved family member who has Alzheimer's.

So many families now have a loved-one with memory loss but it can be hard to talk about. Sometimes it is easier to talk about a fictional character, like Hattie. I hope that the book will be useful but most of all, I hope that you will enjoy it.

THE ILLUSTRATOR - Susanna Kendall

I trained as an artist at Camberwell School of Art and now live in Bath. My work has mainly focused on people and landscapes, but I have also painted botanical subjects. Recently I have been making prints from lino-cuts.

Illustration: I have provided illustrations for some thirty books, ranging from children's stories to adult memoirs and including books on natural history and horticulture.
